After the holidays, it’s common to be unsure how to decorate your home. With all the themed decorations back in their boxes and stored in anticipation for next year, your house might feel empty and lacking. We understand making the transition is tough, and with most of your decoration put away, the task may seem overwhelming. For this reason, we are sharing tips for decorating your home after the holidays.
Declutter and Minimize
The most important thing to do when the holidays are over is to declutter your house. All those extra pieces of decor have got to go! There is peace in decluttering and having a minimalistic interior design scheme. Visual clutter can be distracting, especially to those that work from home. Start by getting rid of all holiday-themed decorations. Once you’ve decluttered, you’ll want to plan out a new theme for the rest of the winter months. We recommend using cool tones, crisp blues and icy greys, and an accent color for contrast, bright yellows or oranges. Accent colors can be used in many unique ways; we suggest incorporating art pieces with your desired accent colors for a quirky balance. Once you’ve planned out your course of action, we propose to opt for minimalist decorations that will not distract you from your day-to-day. Simple rustic touches will do the trick!
Use Natural Arrangements
A great way to keep your decorations minimal but still enticing enough to wow your guests is by introducing greenery into your home. For the winter months, pine cones are a creative way of bringing greenery while staying on theme. You can include natural or fake greenery or a combination of both to spice up your winter decor. Faux evergreen garlands, a basket of pine cones, and juniper branches are all beautiful options. Just remember not to go too overboard! Another unique idea is to leave your Christmas tree up but remove everything and leave it bare. A bare Christmas tree adds a rustic look to your home without screaming holidays. Finally, you’ll want to bring in some houseplants reminiscent of springtime to mix up winter and spring and ease the transition.
Keep It Cozy
When it comes to making your home warm and cozy, more is more! We encourage you to ditch the minimalistic approach we’ve discussed and layer your home with warm blankets and textured pillows. After the holidays, there’s a bit of a void from taking down your decorations. Cozy blankets and pillows can certainly help with that. You’ll want to add textured items to your living room, bedroom, and spare rooms. Don’t hold back on the texture! Velvet pillows, wool covers, and chunky knit blankets are great options to start with. Another great way of layering warmth in your home is by incorporating twinkle lights and candles. Twinkle lights and candles not only bring warmth to your space, but increase the brightness and coziness.
